Femopoly

The game “Fem-o-poly” was developed as part of the celebration of 50 years of women’s suffrage in Switzerland. Originally conceived as an outdoor game for the action days of the FrauMünsterhof21 event, “Fem-o-poly” was publicly launched and played in September 2021 at the Münsterhof in Zurich. A children’s corner was created during the event. Children could design and build their own buildings and landscapes. What does an office building look like? What uses do we need for a sustainable city? The photo was taken from the ETH “Get your act together” Parity Talks 8 events, where we played the “Fem-o-poly” game with the students of ETH. More information about the project, you can find here: https://fem-o-poly.net/

Inclusive Design: “The Uncle Bernie” Story

During a workshop, the young “architects” loved discussing their ideas while they were working on them. They liked discussing “Uncle Bernie”, a character that they created after a lot of funny conversations with each other. At the end of the year, we designed a section of the house of “Uncle Bernie”. Every child had to design a particular room in the house, and at the same time, they had to work in a team to complete the design. After they finished the project and presented it, they found out that actually “Uncle Bernie” was a different character for each child, and as one child said: “My Uncle Bernie is different from yours!”. In the end, the children agreed: It is so interesting to have so many different “Uncles Bernies”, who want to live in different houses because that makes our world funnier!

Magical Cities in d’Insle Montessori School of Zurich

A highlight of the workshops is always designing a city! Great Ideas and buildings surround magical cities: fabulous silver buildings, castle hotels on the beach, candy houses in which all the children could live together and eat as many candies as they want, ice cream shops, chocolate statues, jumping-marines on warehouses etc. A very important part of the course is the reuse of materials. The forms, colors, and design of everyday materials fascinate the children more than fixed art and craft materials that are already designed with forms and colors. They feel free to choose their own unique reused objects and transform them into a project. The process is very creative and during the children are excited to bring their own used materials from home. Keep reusing materials by making architecture!

Open streets New York

Open streets for everyone in New York City! A concept of using the most crowded roads as public spaces during Sunday mornings. Many families and children can draw, play, dance, drink café, walk safely, and enjoy the freedom of using a space differently. My son was inspired by the surroundings, and the skyscrapers, and tried to build as high as he could! In the end, the space where we live and react every day to the environment forms our character and personality. More healthy green spaces and trees, fewer cars, and gray streets are the future of sustainable living spaces. Let’s build more green! A part of my courses focus on sustainable landscapes for our cities. How can we transform our cities? What is missing? How do we want to live in the future? You can not be what you can not see!
